Big Brother 27 is underway. 16 houseguest entered the “Hotel Mystere”- this year’s gimmick for the game. The contestants spent time getting to know each other and finding others with whom they could start building an alliance. The game is interrupted when the lights are shut off and Julie goes missing. A mysterious figure ends the game until the guests can solve the case for missing Julie. They split into two teams to begin the search. Zach uses Adrian to complete the first task- finding Julie. The second task is finding the missing relic. After six guests fail, Jimmy uses the final clue to pick the correct relic.
Zach won $10,000 for his efforts, while Jimmy received the power to choose four people to compete in the HOH.
Jimmy chooses himself, Adrian, Ashley, and Vince. The contestants must balance 6 cores on teeter-totter poles and then press a plunger. If the cores remain for 10 seconds, the cave is blown up and the contestant wins. Vince wins with a half second to spare and becomes season 27’s first Head of Household.
In the first big twist of the season, a mysterious houseguest joins the house- it’s none other than Rachel Riley from seasons 12 and 13, winner of 13. The guests are overwhelmingly excited to have her in the game. Surely, this is nothing more than being star-struck because a serious competitor has joined the game.
The surprises are not over. There is an accomplice in the house who helped with the disappearance of the relic and turning out the lights. If the guests can figure out who it is, that contestant is out. If they can’t figure it out, the contestant stays and becomes the 17th player. We will find out on Sunday.
It’s early on, but this cast is very likable. There are no candidates that stand out in a negative way. Some may find Zach brash and arrogant, but he isn’t nearly as over the top as Jesse. The guests also all seem to be smart and playing their cards close to their vests. It seems they all have a plan and haven’t let the excitement of the game get them. (yes, it’s early, but it has happened many times in the past) At this point, it’s hard to pick favorites.
Our early choices are:
Steve: Jimmy and Vince. Yes, they were two of the few who were focused upon in this episode, but they seem like they will be good in competition, smart, friendly and most likely able to stick to a plan. I see players like Keanu, Zae and Clifton over extending and being their undoing. On the girls’ side, I think Ashley and Lauren will do well. They are both bright and look to have good social games. I could see them floating for a while before making a move. In the end, Jimmy and Vince will be fighting for the win.
Ray: Mickey and Rylie. Jimmy and Vince are atop my list as well, along with Adrian, but I think they all are likely to be pegged as superfans. The sweet spot in this game is to be smart about this game while coming off like a casual, and I think the cowboy and the secret country girl are likely to easily slip into alliances and make the connections they need. For a dark horse pick, keep an eye on Clifton (or “Will”, apparently) – the grandpa of 9 is likely to be underestimated, and if he makes it past the first few weeks, he’s giving off much more Cliff Hogg energy than Kenney.
